Getting Here

Centrally located in northern Florida, Gainesville is easily accessible from any direction and from many major metropolitan areas.


You can fly directly into Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV), which has daily flight service from Delta and American Airlines. GNV is ~5 miles from the University of Florida and from downtown Gainesville. Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is ~80 miles Northeast of Gainesville, Orlando International airport (MCO) is ~120 miles South of Gainesville, and Tampa International airport (TPA) is ~140 miles Southwest of Gainesville


If you prefer to ride the rails, Amtrak’s Thruway Bus service connects with stops in Lakeland (120 miles south of Gainesville) and Jacksonville.


  • I-75 runs north-south through central Florida, passing by West Gainesville.
  • From the North: take exit 387 and route 26 east for ~2.9 miles. Turn right (south) onto route 121/SW 34th St. In ~0.9 miles, the Harn Museum is on your left and the Hilton hotel on your right.
  • From the South: take exit 384 and route 24 east for 1 mile. Turn left (north) on route 121/SW 34th St. In 0.75 miles, the Harn Museum is on your right and the Hilton hotel on your left.
  • From Orlando, take Florida’s Turnpike to I-75 North.
  • From Jacksonville, west on I-10 then south on Highway 301 to Highway 24 will get you here faster you think, plus you’ll run through some small, friendly towns.
  • From Tampa, take I-75 North.
  • From Miami, take Florida’s Turnpike to I-75 North.
  • From Tallahassee, take I-10 East to I-75 South.
  • From Atlanta, take I-75 South.


Gainesville is a destination for Greyhound, Megabus, and RedCoach bus services.
