We welcome you to our Cancer Cachexia Society website. Whether you are interested in becoming a society member or looking for general information on our conferences, we hope you will find our resources helpful. Cachexia is a debilitating syndrome characterized by severe weight loss from the depletion of major tissues, such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. This condition afflicts many chronic illnesses, but is particularly prevalent in cancer patients, where treatment responses are often compromised leading to general weakness, a decline in quality of life, and shortened survival. The goal of our society is to bring an awareness of cachexia to the oncology field, so as to accelerate research to improve diagnosis and treatment strategies. We also seek to perform community outreach to inform patients about this syndrome and current treatment options. We hope to accomplish these goals by providing useful educational resources such as hosting biennial international conferences and on line seminars, sharing the latest pre-clinical and clinical findings, and creating networking opportunities. We invite you to join our growing community of scientists, clinicians, patients, and caregivers that together are committed to making a difference in how we discover and treat cancer cachexia.
